Respond to Peers: By Day 7, respond to at least two of your classmates initial posts. Your peer responses should be substantive and at least 100 words each.. As your reply to your classmates, attempt to take the conversation further by examining their claims or arguments in more depth or responding to the posts that they make to you. Keep the discussion on target and try to analyze things in as much detail as you can. For instance, you might consider comparing your classmates proposals for changing the Electoral College against your own proposal. Constance DAmico 100 WORD COUNT Summarize how the electoral college functions. The main duty that is given to the electoral college is to vote so the office if the president some state have more influence than others. It also takes a minimum of 270 votes to choose a new or incumbent president The total amount of votes possible is 538 and that includes all 50 states and the District of Columbia (Washington D.C.). (fine @Levin-Waldman, 2016), Explain the positive impact of the Electoral college and defend why the Electorcs college should remain as it is currently- include.pros and cons of the college as it is currently. Currently, the Electoral college has control of who becomes President some of the Electeri choose the candidate the state popular vote but, this can be a problem if who electrons chose for the state candidate the state popular vote but this can be a problem if the Electors choose the candidate they feel is right for the job! Small proportions states such as Alaska and Montana often have more pushed that other states with large populations like Californa or New York State. Some of the largely populated cities (For example New York city in New York and Los Angeles in Californa ). Have a higher population than the states with populations of 100,00 or less. This means the candidate may not choose to campaign in those states due to little advertising an small population (100,00 million in some states.) (Bates 2014) Conservatives in Congress choose to keep the Electoral college as it currently is because they are afraid of the out to come when the people ( not the electoral vote for themselves who should be the blend president of the United States. The electoral college is the best optimum for some president who would not have become president based on the population vote. The popular vote artist scared our founding fathers so president and their vice president Today we still use the electoral college but some in Congress believe it is time he change this law so, maybe in the future the peoples majority vote will be considered when it comes downs elections or president and vice president !(Gizzi,2011) References Bates, N. el McKusker 100WORD COUNT Functions of the Electoral College The Electoral College is a process of determining the next president of the United States. It is made up of 538 electors and either party running needs a majority electoral votes of 270. The votes are made up by one vote for each member of the House of Representatives and then two for each Senator in each state. Explain the negative impact of the Electoral College and defend why the Electoral College should be abolished. Be sure to include both the pros and cons of abolishing the Electoral College. The negative impact of the Electoral College is people feeling like our votes dont count, and why wouldnt they feel that way? We are always taught growing up go vote, make your vote count but then you find out that the Electoral College essentially picks the President for us, I dont truly believe our vote matters. Now, I believe we have only had a few instances where the winner of the Electoral College didnt get the popular vote but, even then to me the people majority speaking are not getting what they voted for. In George Edwards Why the Electoral College is bad for America, Edwards attack deals with the notion that the electoral college protects the interests of small states and minorities, and it preserves federalism. He argues that these three conventional rationales for the electoral college are not rooted in the arguments made by the Founders most involved in its design, and they do not operate today in the manner their supporters say they do: small states have little community interest other than their size, minorities are not concentrated solely in large or even competitive states, and the selection of the president bears no relationship to federalism in terms of its function or structure (Edwards lll, 2004). As a person who is more of Neutral party (but I vote Republican) I feel like the Electoral College should be abolished because there are many throw away states as heard on the news that the votes dont really make a difference. I mean think about it every yr we know that the big states California and Texas are going to always vote Democratic and Republican, so in most cases it comes down to 2-3 states Ohio, Florida and some times Pennsylvania. So, as a candidate why would I waste my time in a state I know Im not going to win? In the election of 2004, for example, George W. Bush spent little time in California as it was expected to vote Democratic. By contrast, he made more than forty visits to the swing state of Pennsylvania during his term. The larger the swing state, the more attention it receives from the candidates from both parties (Bates 2004). If the Government really cared about what the people thought or wanted then they would do away with this a truly make our vote count, because even though I voted Republican I still dont believe my vote counted. I simply do not believe there are any Pros to having the Electoral Colleges I welcome any insight any of my fellow classmates would like to share when it comes to the pros. REFERENCES: Bates, N.
