After researching how our bodies would be affected if we were missing ribosomes, I found that it would be very hard for us to survive. Ribosomes are necessary for us to live because they generate all the proteins that help cells to grow. If our bodies were missing ribosomes, the cell would not be able to grow. During my research, I wasnt able to find what illness would be caused if ribosomes were missing but I was able to find what diseased ribosomes have been known to cause when there are mutations in some of the proteins. These illnesses include bone marrow failure, anemia and cancer and are often referred to as ribosomopathies. People are born with or can acquire a gene mutation where cause defective ribosomes to be produced. The cell is left with very few functioning ribosomes to produce proteins which is what causes people to have bone marrow failure and anemia. Bone marrow failure can be treated with stem cell treatment, but still with few ribosomes it can be hard on the cell since it needs proteins to grow. Anemia can be treated different forms of medications and blood transfusions. After researching ribosomes, I was very interested to find how crucial they are to our bodies and how much cells struggle with few of them. Dewar, H. (2014, March 31). .
