This week we will move on to the ECERS observation, which is your 3 hour classroThis week we will move on to the ECERS observation, which is your 3 hour classroom observation. The ECERS-S is a classroom rating scale that assesses the quality of YOUR classroom. It is never meant as a punitive tool to see what teachers are doing wrong, but rather, to identify a level of development in each of seven subscales, and to have a tool to support your growth, from there.

For week 7, you are tasked with doing some online research to learn more about the ECERS-R. rating scale. You will want to learn about the seven subscales and h
ow to score them. Once you feel comfortable with the scale, you will use the ECERS-R to rate a preschool classroom. This can be your own classroom, a classroom in your center, or a classroom in another program. You should plan to spend about two hours in the classroom, completing this observation. What you will submit for the assignment is the scoring sheet. That is all.
Now, if you are rating the classroom at all ‘5’s, 6’s and 7’s, chances are great that you are scoring too high. Do your best, be enthusiastically critical, and submit your honest attempt to score according to the scale. What do I mean by ‘enthusiastically critical’? I mean that I want you to enjoy this opportunity of looking critically at a preschool classroom. The goal is for you to learn.
You will earn full points if you demonstrate a good attempt to complete the evaluation form.
